2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Throughout our media product we use many different media techniques to represent particular social groups. The main social group that is represented in "don't look back" is stereotypical teenagers. however the film opening also represents football fans in general. One way in which we represent stereotypical teenagers is through the use of costume. we decided to dress are actor in jeans , a patterned jumper and Fred perry trainers. These particular items of clothing are seen as being 'chavy' and also represent teenagers as being rough and unsociable as the clothing is not smart or presentable. This is also shown among the other football fans , as the majority of them are wearing jeans and a canvas coat which some could associate with the typical football hooligan look. Our media product can also represent teenagers as being reckless and not thinking about things. For example , the main character is running across central london with not a care in the world except to make it to the football game in time. This therefore shows that the narrative of the product develops a bad representation of this social group. Another technique used within our media product to represent the social group of teenagers is in the script itself. By using strong adult language throughout it represents the teenage social group as being rude and disrespectful. Moreover , the use of violence in our media product re-illustrates this and once again gives teenagers a bad representation.

My Main Project - Look Back In Anger

Preliminary Task

Monday, 22 February 2010

Sorry for the lack of quality . technical problems meant this is the only way to upload them . please bare in mind number 1 is at the bottom. so start from the bottom and work your way up.

Planning- Health and Safety

When planning filming there are various health and safety risk that we need to take into consideration. Each location poses its different threats and we must overcome.

Football stadium
  • There are thousands of people at a football game . we therefore need to try to avoid the crowd whilst filming them. To do this we have discovered various places where we can film safely where there will not be lots of people. ( see Recce of location specific)
  • The locations we have chosen to film does not provide any electrical power source to charge cameras. we will therefore have to take various fully charged battery packs with us when we film.
Train Station
  • A train station is obviously a very dangerous place . the station we have chose to film at is very small which makes it even more dangerous. we can reduce this risk by filming at the station at off peak times the allow ourselves more space.
  • to also eliminate this risk we have spoken to the station manager of ' Drayton park station' and let him know the dates we will be filming.
Around Finsbury park
  • in this location we are mainly using tracking shots of the main character running. we therefore have to use moving equipment like trolleys or skateboards. the locations we have choose have smooth pavements or smooth bicycle tracks which will reduce the risk of injury.

Planning - Casting

During are casting process for our film opening we auditioned 3 people who we felt would be appropriate for the role of ' DAN '. We gave them a section of the script and asked them to preform there interpretation of it. Another factor we had to consider when casting was the actors availability.

We finally choose BEN COURTNEY to play the role of 'DAN'

# = This is where we will try various different techniques to try and create a steady tracking shot. we will test out shopping trolleys , skate boards and various other things. I will post the results of this test.

*= Arsenal play west ham at emirates stadium in finsbury park London. This is where we will achieve are crowd shots.
